HMPPS Prison Heatmap

02/03 Update – The Heatmap has now been update to reflect which sites are on the progression list, and the date that they were added to the list. This will be updated following the heatmap panel each friday.

The heatmap has been updated to note which prisons are on the ‘watchlist’.  The ‘watchlist’ identifies prisons where there is evidence indicative of an undeclared outbreak or where evidence suggests an outbreak may arise in the near future. Establishments are not required to take any specific actions as result of being placed on the watchlist, but should be aware of this perceived risk.

The criteria for inclusion on the watchlist consists of:

5 or more reported SARS-Cov-2 positive staff cases in the last 14 days
OR
2 or more reported SARS-Cov-2 staff cases and 1 or more reported SARS-Cov-2 positive service user cases in the last 14 days
OR
Included exceptionally following review.

  • Sites who have been moved to Amber or Green in the heatmap panel may still be in outbreak.

Hi Michael, The reverse cohorting Transfer calculator isn’t looking up the correct cell – The formula in column O should be 5 not 3 to pick up the RAG rating

Hi Charlotte,

Great spot! I’ve added 2 columns since the initial version and hadn’t updated the formula. All updated now, really appreciate your vigilance!

Cheers

Mike

There is some narrative on the latest updates page regarding the publishing of an updated “reverse cohorting status restricted areas” spreadsheet. This advises amendments made on 26 October reflect HMP Northumberland, along with two other sites, moving to outbreak status. However, this declaration for HMP Northumberland does not appear to have been reflected in the spreadsheet itself.

Hi,
We have received two prisoners from HMP Leyhill today at HMP Erlestoke. I spoke with the escorting officer and said I see they had become a red site according to the heat map. The officer said they are not red as far as he knows and that he thinks they are, in fact, still green. Is the heat map correct, or the Leyhill officer? It makes a difference to us and the two prisoners, in termso f whether or not they need to Reverse-Cohort.
Thanks.

Hi Andy,

Hopefully this reply reaches you in time. Yes, Leyhill are a red site as they are reported to have a live Outbreak. The two new receptions should be reverse cohorted.

Any further immediate issues, please email COVID19.Regimes&OpsGuidance@justice.gov.uk.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike, I have a PHE colleague asking for further clarity on the criteria of the heat map, the are specifically asking is ‘know is whether the local authority restriction status is taken into account and how’ I understand that they are obviously but the part I’m not clear on is the ‘adjacent’ part – can you give more details please?
Thanks

Hi Nicky,

So the adjacent part is where a site is located in an area which is next to two or more ares under local authority restrictions. This is to account for the fact that not all staff are located in the area the prison is located and may be travelling from a restricted area to come to work. Local prisons may also have a catchment area which takes from some of the surrounding areas in which the establishment isn’t directly located.

Happy to talk this through further if this doesn’t fully answer your question?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Dave,

The spreadsheet is updated every friday following the heat map panel, but any updates such as outbreaks are updated as they come in through the week as well. Just to confirm the version on the platform is from the 11th, and is currently the most up to date version.

Hope this helps?

Sian

Hi Mike
On the current Heatmap, Hollesley Bay are showing as being Stage 3 Regime. We moved to Stage 2 on Friday 30th October. Regards

Thanks a lot,

Hi Michael,

HMP Styal moved from Stage 4 to Stage 3 yesterday (7/12). This has been approved through Gold and we’d appreciate it if this could be updated.

Thanks, Nicola

Hi Nicola,

Thanks for flagging. I will ensure this is ammended when today’s heatmap is issued.

Thanks,

Siân

Hi Michael,
Just to advise HMP Northumberland is no longer an outbreak site. I would be grateful if this could be updated in the heatmap.

Richard Martin
Deputy Head of Residence
HMP Northumberland

Hi Richard,

I have just sent you an email with some further info on this matter.

Best wishes,

Sian Blake

Hello
HMP Frankland is no longer an outbreak site. Our outbreak status changed on Friday 8th January. Please could the heat map be updated to reflect this.

Thank you
Officer Rachael Holmes
HMP Frankland COVID Team

Hi Rachael,

Thanks for flagging. I have raised this with health colleagues. Once they have confirmed that the outbreak has officially been closed via the OCT I will update the heatmap accordingly. Sometiems there is a lag between closure and notification so no cause for concern.

Best wishes,

Sian Blake

You only list Feltham once – we are a split site. Although the outbreak status will be the same the regime delivery stage is different. For info Feltham B is Stage 4 regime delivery. Feltham A is at stage 3.
Thanks

Thanks Paul. The reporting arrangements mean that we currently recieve the data as one, but we are aware that the site is split. I will try and ammend the spreadsheet such that it incorpoates both sites for ease of use.

Thanks,

Sian Blake
